Edinburgh International Asia Conference 2017

The Edinburgh International Asia Conference (EIAC) is a platform to foster the connection between Scotland and Asia, in which we invite top academics and professionals to expand Scottish students’ vision, inspire their interest in the region, and connect them with the opportunities to use their knowledge to create huge positive impact and emerge as next generation leaders.

The inaugural conference, launched in February 2016, was a highly successful event attended by 300 delegates and professionals, sponsored by the Scottish Government, Confucius Institute for Scotland and various organisations.

We invite ambitious and enthusiastic students like YOU who aims to become future leaders to join us in making Edinburgh the top city in which global diversity thrives. We also encourage companies to take advantage of the opportunity to engage and connect with Scotland’s most ambitious international students from across the globe.

We will host three different tracks for conference attendees to choose from, modelled after the successful and well established Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations model. Each track will focus on the role of technology and innovation in supporting sustainable developing and the future international partnerships of tomorrow. The three tracks are as follows:

Track One: Environment and Sustainability Speakers will have experience and/or knowledge in industries including but not limited to renewable energy, conservation and cross-border scientific research.

Track Two: Business, Finance and the World Economy Speakers will have a background in business, economics and/or entrepreneurships. They may speak about topics including but not limited to international foreign investment, economic relations, or cultural business practices.

Track Three: Public Policy, Law and Diplomacy Speakers will have a background in public policy, law and/or diplomacy. They may speak about their personal career development or a region in which they have expertise.

EIAC strives to achieve the following core goals. These goals are harmonious with those outlined in the Scottish Government’s Economic Strategy for Scotland, China Strategy,
India Strategy, Pakistan Strategy, and Internationalisation of Social Enterprises Strategy, among others.
1. Provide students with the network, skills and opportunities to serve as the next generation of global thought leaders, business executives, and influencers.
2. Create a talented pool of students for top companies seeking graduate with an
open, global, forward-looking outlook.
3. Forge greater links between students from Asian and non-Asian countries, promoting joint cooperation and understanding to establish the foundations of the
international partnerships of tomorrow.
4. Expand the outlook of students, challenging them to think critically about the world
and how they may play a key role in positively impacting it future development.
5. Inspire Scottish students to seek greater knowledge of and deeper engagement with Asia.
6. Recognize outstanding students in their field of studies who have concentrated on the Asian region as positive reinforcement and appreciation for globally-minded and innovative students.

We will greet approximately 210 student delegates and 40 professionals and academics in our main Hall. EIAC 2017 will also be hosting Professor Harald Haas, Chair of Mobile Communications of the University of Edinburgh, as well as Dr. Mark Urquhart, Partner at Baillie Gifford. Other leaders include representatives from the Asia Scotland Institute, The Royal Society of Edinburgh, Japanese
Consulate, Scottish Government, Skyscanner, the UK Green Investment Bank, Standard Life Apollo Innovation Team and the University of Edinburgh School of Social and Political Science.

We feel now is more important than ever to showcase that we as future leaders are open and see
opportunities to work across borders and cultures to positively contribute to the world around us. We invite ambitious and enthusiastic students like YOU who aims to become future leaders to join us in making Edinburgh the top city in which global diversity thrives. We also encourage companies to take advantage of the opportunity to engage and connect with Scotland’s most ambitious international students from across the globe.
