The University of Tokyo Summer Internship Program in Kashiwa

UTSIP Kashiwa, initiated by the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences in 2013, provides a hands-on research internship program in the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, Information Technology, International Studies, Materials Sciences, Advanced Energy, Ocean Science, Physics and Sustainability Science Studies.

Eligibility

  1. Those who are registered in undergraduate study at an overseas university throughout the entire duration of UTSIP program
  2. Those who are interested in matriculating to graduate level study at the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences or other graduate schools at The University of Tokyo, or elsewhere in Japan
  3. Participants are required to participate in all activities including classes, laboratory work, and special events organized by UTSIP.

Financial Aid

UTSIP provides a UTSIP scholarship to participants that includes:

Scholarship for living expenses (JPY 110,000)
Partial subsidy for your air fare (up to JPY 50,000)

When participants are selected, a UTSIP scholarship is also guaranteed.

If you have applied or will apply for a different scholarship, please mention this on the Application page. If a participant receives scholarship from another institution or organization, we will adjust the amount of UTSIP scholarship accordingly. Accommodations will still be provided to all participants.

Regarding air travel, participants are, in principle, expected to arrive in Japan one day before the program start date, and leave Japan one day after the program end date.

In order to apply for air fare subsidy, participants must submit original documents that are designated by the accounting rules of The University of Tokyo. If the original documents are not submitted to the ILO office by announced deadlines, participants will be unable to receive the air fare subsidy.
