Chen Yu Tung
Ambassadors 2017

Chen Yu-Tung is a student in National Taiwan University, with major as international business. She has been long interested in the ongoing global trends and social issues around the world. Engaged as a member of NTU World Volunteer Society, she's gained many unforgettable experiences in volunteering in nursing homes and remote schools in Taiwan and India. The most unforgettable one is the 3-week volunteering trip to Ladakh, India in August 2016. Through her lecture on human rights and Design for Change, a window on the world was opened to the kids, and the aspiring students also in turn inspired the volunteers.

Moreover, aiming to dedicate in social enterprises in the future, she joined the social business startup “TriSoap” in 2015. The team cooperates with NGO in Taitung, helping mentally disadvantaged people gain confidence through making handmade cold process soap, the type of the highest quality and the most complicated procedures of making, featuring local produce. They’re convinced that only when people are amazed by great products will they gradually change their minds towards charity goods. People purchasing such goods should not do so solely for charitable means, but because of the highlights of the products themselves.

Being a delegate in 2016 Global Initiatives Symposium Taiwan in July 2016 broadened her horizon and instilled her heart with insights about women empowerment, social enterprise, and the latest technology. Same as in 2016 AIT Youth Camp, which she participated in afterwards, she learned a lot not only from speakers from all over Southeast Asia, Europe and even Africa, but gained much more while making friends with the outstanding students all over the globe.

She always hope to know more about the role of youth in this ever-changing world, especially how they can make the world a better place for everyone in every corner. With the passion for global and public participation, she hopes to live up to the motto,

"BE THE CHANGE THAT YOU WISH TO SEE IN THIS WORLD."

How do you motivae the youths living in developing world for the better future?

The role of youth is increasingly important in this ever-changing world. Being young means having the vigorous minds to learn quickly and think freely, and the energy to try everything and take action immediately.

I believe that young people all over the globe, especially those in developing countries, should grasp every opportunity get engaged in the global community. From attending international conferences, joining in worldwide competitions, taking internships in foreign countries, to discussing public issues with experts all over the globe, there are countless ways for us to catch up with the latest trends, learn more deeply about the issues, and gradually develop our own insights.

Furthermore, after gaining a global perspective and knowledge on various issues, we should take the initiative and actually take action to change the situation for the better. From human rights to environmental protection, from petitions to social innovation, I'm convinced that, if we all take on the challenges and be the change-makers in our countries, step by step, we can, and we are, creating a better future of the whole wide world!
