The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is seeking a Regional Representative for its Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) in Fukuoka, Japan. The Regional Representative will be responsible for leading and managing the ROAP, which provides technical assistance and advisory services to countries in the region on sustainable urbanization. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in urban development, a deep understanding of the challenges facing cities in Asia and the Pacific, and excellent leadership and management skills.

Here are some of the key responsibilities of the Regional Representative:

• Provide strategic direction and leadership to the ROAP
• Manage the ROAP’s budget and staffing
• Represent UN-Habitat in the region and build partnerships with governments, UN agencies, and other stakeholders
• Develop and implement programmes and projects that support sustainable urbanization
• Monitor and evaluate the ROAP’s performance

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

• Master’s degree in urban planning, development studies, or a related field
• At least 10 years of experience in urban development, with a focus on Asia and the Pacific
• Strong leadership and management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Fluency in English and one of the official languages of the region (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Hindi)
