With the aim of creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Middle East, Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp hosted its 9th edition successfully in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 7th to 10th July 2023. The 9th edition of GEB gathered 150 participants from 35+ different countries and these participants were mentored by 10 mentors/speakers from renowned institutes around the world.
Renowned for the diversity in participants, collaboration opportunities and life changing experience, the 9th GEB was hosted in collaboration with Swiss School of Management, Global School of Business Management, Encube Labs and American Cosmopolitan University as co-organizers.
The 9th GEB kicked off with an opening ceremony in the evening of 7th July and was followed by team formation, interactive talk sessions, startup workshops, business model canvas formation and other related activities over the next 2 days and concluded with the idea pitching on the 4th day called demo day. By the end of the Bootcamp, we had 1 winner team, 1 best team and some honorary mentions. But the 9th bootcamp was more than a competition. The participants were facilitated with interaction sessions presenting the successful entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial experts, and other mentors.
The mentor/speakers of 9th edition included Mr. John Dana Chisholm (Founder, Jhon Chisholm Venture, USA/ Former board of trustee at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)/ Former advisory board member of Harvard Kennedy School and Former Chair of Stanford Institute for Quantitative study of Society), Prof. Rajesh Nair (Founder Encube Labs/visiting scholar at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)/ Former Director at Asia School of Business, started by MIT Sloan in Malaysia), Prof. Dr. Massimiliano Bracale (President, Swiss School of Management), Mr. Dinesh Kumar (Blended learning Program Manager at Stanford Seed, Stanford University), Dr. Urwa Tariq (Research Associate, Department of Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship at United Arab Emirates University), Ms. Victoria Kushpeleva (StartupAdvisor and Social Impact Entrepreneur), Dr. Prachee Gaur (Founder, Remarkable Education), Mr. Anurag Kumar (Indian School of Business (ISB)) and Mr. Jagrat Jhamb (Founder, The Brand Folks).
For the demo day, 15 business ideas were pitched. The ideas pitched includes Easy Travel (a startup that aims to make the travel convenient by offering hassle free luggage system), Instant Chhoila Sauce (mouthwatering traditional Newari dish that can be served on your plate in just two minutes with the help of this sauce), Rover (Unleashing your career potential with personalized recommendation depending on your LinkedIn profile and the internet to deliver tailored opportunities), Ukhu (The paper produced from sugarcane bagasse can be sold at highly competitive rates, while at the same time, promoting a more eco- friendly and cleaner image for our customers), GRACE (clothing business which produce traditional handmade products with traditional weaving technique), Luna GPS (a revolutionary gps app designed to make your navigation experience seamless and efficient), Warrior (an app from where user can have easy recipes using ingredients you already have in your kitchen), Psychosocial Counseling Center (AI based psychology consulting center for teenage girls), Vio (Unleashing the Untapped Human Capital Potential of youth in Developing Countries through mindset and skillset development and business ideas incubation), Leeg (mobile application that helps users can play tournaments of their favourite games, win rewards around the clock and withdraw winning prizes instantly to their mobile wallet or bank account), FitApp (companion that will help others achieving their fitness goals without feeling insecur), Nutri Genie (Nutrition consultancy service that promotes zero food wastage and a social network to increase motivation), Winning team (beauty training business aims to empower women from low-income backgrounds in China, Nepal, and Tanzania by providing accessible training programs that unleash their creativity and entrepreneurial potential), Pathway Parters (startups that provide students with pre-gradurate internships and career insights, counselling, skill building, certificate programs, training), Rainwater Recovery Co. (idea is to conserve rainwater and avoid water clogging on roads which will eventually result in better quality of roads and reduce water scarcity), FUTUREX Housing Technohouse (affordable apartments which are constructed with technology to lower environmental and financial cost).
Among the ideas pitched, the Winner team was Warrior with team members Harshini Parihar, Krish Chhajer, Purva Sharma, Suruchi Paudel and Anugya Panta. Team Vio won the title of Best team with team members Amenan SIDIKI, Rethabile Milisi, Medha Adhikari, Jaideep Singh and Wu Sijia.
The winning team received USD 1000 cash prize, full scholarship to study MBA at Swiss School of Management and free entry to 10th GEB in California.
Ms. Parshu Aryal, Founder of GEB, concluded the 9th GEB thanking all team members, partners, mentors/speakers and participants. She mentioned GEB as a platform “where dreams take shape, ideas become reality, and innovation knows no bounds.”
