UN has currently Offering a job vacancy for a Medical Officer with a deadline of 9th November 2023.

Medical Officer UN  position is within the Department of Operational Support, specifically in the Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH). DHMOSH offers healthcare management and occupational safety services to various UN entities, including field missions, New York-based agencies, and economic commissions. The Medical Officer reports to the Medical Director of DHMOSH.

Responsibilities of Medical Officer :

Within delegated authority, the Medical Officer will be responsible for the following duties

Clinical Duties:

  •  Undertakes day-to-day clinical duties, e.g. walk-in clinic, emergencies,
  • Undertake day-to-day occupational health duties: pre-placement and periodic medical examinations prepare UN staff for travelling providing immunizations, malaria prophylaxis, travel kits, etc.
  • Refers staff to outside specialists as necessary.
  • Follows-up with outside specialists,
  • Provides health education and health promotion programs.
  •  Participates in addressing work environment and occupational health issues.

Medico Administrative Duties:

  • Undertakes and supervises medical evacuations, follow up and reporting.
  • Liaises with UN Medical Units in duty stations and host-nation medical facilities.
  •  Follows the United Nations established policies and procedures regarding medical clearances, sick leave and medical evacuations/repatriations.
  •  Participates in drafting and implementation of business continuity and crises preparedness plans for the duty station/mission.
  •  Deputizes for a Medical Officer during his/her absence.

General:

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Competencies

Professionalism: Knowledge of clinical, occupational and tropical/travel medicine. Formal training in CPR and, preferably in BCLS and ACLS or equivalent emergency medical care. Uses time efficiently.

Education for Medical Officer UN 

A first-level university degree that qualifies for registration as a licensed medical practitioner (MD, MBBS, MBChB or equivalent) and current unrestricted registration with the medical licensing authority of one of the Members States of the United Nations is required. Postgraduate qualification in a medical specialty is desirable.

Work Experience for Medical Officer UN 

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible clinical experience in one of the areas of medicine is required.
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems is required.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; and knowledge of French is an advantage.

Assessment

  • Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
