Assistant Professor of Economics is required at the Economics Department of University of Denver (DU).

Department of Economics will seek to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting September 2019. Candidates must have a PhD or be ABD in Economics or a related discipline. If ABD, the degree must be completed no later than August 2020. The university is seeking a heterodox economist doing research in the areas of Economics of Technology, and Public Policy towards Industry and Technology. Candidates conducting research in Industrial Organization, Economic History, Labor, and/or Economic Growth on topics that overlap with the above areas are welcome to apply. Candidates must show promise of distinction in research and publications in these fields and must also show promise of excellent teaching ability in the areas they offer, as well as in our introductory courses Macro- and Microeconomics I: History and Theories and/or Macro- and Microeconomics II: Theories and Policies.

Responsibilities

• Teach six 4-hour courses per year over three quarters (autumn, winter and spring) that reflect the candidates areas of specialization in the Economics of Technology and Public Policy towards Industry and Technology, and a knowledge of general Economics commensurate with someone who has studied the subject at the doctoral level.
• Supervise some MA theses, and advise both graduate and undergraduate students.
• Conduct economic research, some of the results of which have to be publishable in refereed journals, or in the forms of books or monographs. The primary research areas should be in the Economics of Technology, and Public Policy towards Industry and Technology.
• Serve as a good academic citizen within the Department, the Economics profession, DU and the community beyond by serving on various committees or community panels or forums.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. or ABD in Economics or a related discipline.
  • If ABD, the degree must be completed no later than August 2020 and the rank of instructor will be held until completion.
• Some experience in teaching Economics at the college level, including that acquired as a teaching assistant.
• Evidence of an emerging research agenda on the Economics of Technology and Public Policy towards Industry and Technology that show promise for some scholarly publications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of Ph.D. in Economics or a related discipline.
• Experience in teaching Economics as an instructor (rather than a teaching assistant) at the college level.
• Evidence of a research agenda on the Economics of Technology and Public Policy towards Industry and Technology that has resulted in some scholarly publication(s).
• Contribution to compositional and/or intellectual diversity and to the advancement of Inclusive Excellence through teaching, research and service.
