Visiting Assistant Professor position available at the Creative Writing Program in the College of Arts & Sciences of University of Oregon. The University of Oregon’s Creative Writing Program invites applications for a non-tenure-track position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Fiction for the 2019-2020 academic school year (09/16/19–06/15/20).

The Creative Writing Program at the University of Oregon offers both a minor in creative writing and a Master of Fine Arts. The Program emphasizes the workshop and integrating concentrated time for writing with craft seminars.

Responsibilities

  • teaching one M.F.A. workshop, four undergraduate creative writing courses (five courses total), and directing five individual tutorials for our first-year graduate students,
  • program service (i.e., graduate admissions, M.F.A. exam, etc.), and
  • participation in the program’s Reading Series.

Qualifications and Requirements

MFA, MA, or PhD in creative writing or comparable field, at least one published book of literary fiction from a nationally recognized press and evidence of strong teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

University of Oregon seeks candidates specializing in literary fiction. Competitive applicants will have publications in top-tier journals, fellowships and/or awards, and book publication(s) from a top-tier publisher. Experience in an M.F.A. environment (teaching, advising, service, etc.) preferred. It particularly welcomes applications from writers who are from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, and/or who are interested in teaching fiction that explores socio-cultural difference (race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, nationality, or disability).

This is a non-tenure-track, nine-month, non-renewable position at 1.0 FTE. The University of Oregon offers a competitive benefits package.
