Background Information

Global Pulse is an innovation initiative in the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General. Our focus is harnessing new digital data to help the public sector understand more expediently how communities are coping with the impacts of global crises. To this end, Global Pulse is developing a 21st Century approach to impact monitoring, building social software for evidence-based decision making, and establishing a network of “Pulse Labs” to mainstream the use of real-time data analysis into development policy. Pulse Labs are national facilities established to support the public sector by developing analytical and technological capacity for harnessing real-time data to strengthen social protection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and advise on specific national regulations relevant to data handling and implementation of data driven innovation projects
  • Assist with executing data sharing/data access arrangements within agreements, including consulting with the counterparts in the UN and tracking compliance with the existing responsibilities undertaken in current partnerships
  • Perform due diligence of prospective and current partners in line with UN rules and regulations, including those related to digital data collection, use and re-use
  • Assist with conducting Privacy Impact Assessments for current and potential projects
  • Identify gaps in UN policies related to data use and data privacy and propose potential solutions
  • Research and track developments and new opportunities for collaboration and projects on Data Privacy in Africa, Asia and Latin-America
  • Research, draft and provide feedback on all privacy related communications
  • Coordinate and provide logistics support to workshops, conferences, and events with privacy experts, UN agencies, and academia
  • Provide support to existing expert and working groups

Qualifications and Requirements

  • University degree in Law or related fields is required. Additional qualifications in Data Privacy, Cybersecurity, Information Security and Intellectual Property are desirable.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in law, research, or policy analysis is required;
  • 1-2 years of experience working on projects involving innovation, artificial intelligence data privacy, or data sharing/access is an asset;
  • Experience working with the UN or similar international organizations is an asset;
  • Experience in drafting and reviewing partnership agreements, contracts and policies is an asset;
  • Experience coordinating events, conferences, and workshops is an asset
  • Fluent in English, other UN languages is an asset
