WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2026 | Global Awards for Women Social Entrepreneurs

April 2026 — The WE Empower UN SDG Challenge — often referred to simply as the WeEmpower Awards — is now accepting applications for its 2026 global competition, celebrating women social entrepreneurs whose work is accelerating progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This annual challenge spotlights women leaders who are driving measurable social and economic change in communities around the world.

What Is the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge?

The WE Empower UN SDG Challenge is a global awards programme for women entrepreneurs who are leading ventures that actively contribute to achieving the SDGs by 2030. The competition identifies women founders and business leaders whose organizations not only create social impact but also demonstrate gender equity, innovation, and scalability. Finalists gain international recognition and opportunities for development, networking, and visibility on global platforms.

Who Can Apply

The programme targets experienced women entrepreneurs and leaders who meet these general criteria:

  • Identify as a woman entrepreneur leading or co‑founding the organization
  • Be 21 years or older by August 1, 2026
  • Lead decision‑making within the business or organization
  • Have at least three years of operating experience
  • Employ a minimum of three full‑time staff or equivalents
  • Generate at least USD $75,000 in annual revenue (or equivalent funding for nonprofits)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English

These eligibility thresholds ensure that applicants are well‑established leaders whose ventures have achieved operational stability and measurable results.

How the Competition Works

Applicants submit detailed information about their business or organization, including its mission, SDG impact, and demonstrated commitment to gender equality. A short video submission is also required as part of the application, offering a personal pitch about the applicant’s work and vision for broader impact.

Judging criteria include the demonstrated impact on the SDGs, the innovative character of the solution, the scale of change, and the applicant’s vision for growth and community influence. Finalists may be invited to participate in virtual and in‑person events later in 2026 as part of the challenge’s program.

Benefits of Participation

Being selected as a finalist or awardee in the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge brings multiple advantages:

  • Global recognition as a leader in sustainable development and women’s empowerment
  • Exposure to international media and partners interested in impact and innovation
  • Opportunities to participate in tailored training and networking events
  • A platform to engage with potential investors, collaborators, and mentors
  • Enhanced credibility for future scaling and funding opportunities

The challenge elevates the visibility of women‑led ventures that are advancing inclusive and equitable solutions aligned with SDGs.

Why This Matters

Women entrepreneurs are key drivers of sustainable economic growth, social change, and community resilience. However, systemic barriers — including lack of access to capital, networks, and decision‑making power — often limit their potential. The WE Empower UN SDG Challenge not only celebrates women leaders but also amplifies their voices on the global stage, promoting gender equality, inclusive entrepreneurship, and community‑focused innovation. As global development agendas increasingly prioritize gender equity and the SDGs, platforms like the WE Empower Awards help accelerate progress by recognizing and supporting leaders whose work delivers measurable benefits for people and planet alike.
