Teaching and Learning Librarian position is available at Cornell University Library to provide leadership in building online learning capacity for the library’s information literacy program.
The Teaching and Learning Librarian will play a key role in the teaching of core research skills within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Human Ecology. In collaboration with the Mann Library instruction team and its coordinators, they will take the lead on the assessment of programmatic success. They will develop and maintain partnerships with other instructional units on campus that are committed to student learning, including the Office of Student Services, Center for Teaching Innovation, the Knight Writing Institute and the Learning Strategies Center. The incumbent will serve as Mann Library’s point-of-contact during the adoption phase of the university’s new Learning Management System, Canvas.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and assess online resources, interactive learning modules and educational videos that support the teaching goals of the library.
- Perform needs assessment with library staff and faculty colleagues to identify priority concepts and objectives that would benefit from e-learning tools.
- Establish workflows to integrate e-learning resources into a variety of teaching scenarios, including course-based instruction, group workshops and help sessions.
- Provide research support for the research, learning and extension communities served by Mann Library.
- Acquire and maintain expertise in information trends in academic research libraries.
Qualifications and Requirements
- MLS from ALA accredited school or equivalent professional degree
- Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, the design and delivery of instruction in an academic environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong service orientation
- Ability to work independently and function in a collegial, teamwork-oriented environment that emphasizes customer service and delivery of exemplary library research and instruction services.
Preferred
- Knowledge of pedagogical concepts, trends, and assessment with experience in educational technologies and information literacy
- Experience with at least one video editing software, such as iMovie, Camtasia, Adobe Premiere, Panopto, etc.
- Coursework or professional experience in instructional design
