Details

The GIST Scholarship 2027 is now accepting applications for international students interested in pursuing graduate studies in South Korea. Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) offers master’s, doctoral and integrated master’s-doctoral programs in science, technology, engineering and related fields.

For the Spring 2027 intake, applications are open from September 7 to October 7, 2026, at 5:00 PM Korea Standard Time (KST). The program is scheduled to begin in March 2027.

GIST is a science and technology-focused university in Gwangju, South Korea. Its graduate school offers programs covering areas such as artificial intelligence, computer science, semiconductor engineering, physics, chemistry, materials science, robotics, energy, life sciences and biomedical engineering.

One of the major advantages for international applicants is that all international graduate students are granted the GIST Scholarship without submitting a separate scholarship application.

GIST Scholarship Benefits

The GIST scholarship provides substantial financial support to international graduate students. Benefits include:

  • Full tuition fee waiver
  • Monthly allowance of KRW 140,000 for master’s students
  • Monthly allowance of KRW 295,000 for doctoral students
  • Monthly meal allowance of KRW 100,000
  • Research incentives for students participating in research projects
  • Health insurance support
  • One-way flight reimbursement to Korea
  • Access to student dormitories and accommodation options
  • Opportunities for international research and overseas collaborative research
  • Access to advanced research facilities and equipment

According to GIST’s 2026 information, required academic fees valued at approximately KRW 7.61 million per year are fully waived. Research incentives may provide additional financial support depending on the student’s participation in research projects.

Is GIST Scholarship Fully Funded?

The GIST Scholarship is commonly described as a fully funded scholarship because tuition is fully waived and students receive monthly allowances, meal support, health insurance support and flight reimbursement.

However, applicants should note that not every expense is necessarily covered. GIST states that newly admitted students are charged a one-time matriculation fee of KRW 680,000. Other personal expenses may also need to be covered by the student.
