Details

Applications are now open for the Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity (AFSEE) Programme 2027–28 at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the United Kingdom. This fully funded fellowship is designed for experienced changemakers who are committed to addressing social and economic inequalities and creating a fairer world.

The programme welcomes applications from policymakers, researchers, activists, social entrepreneurs, artists, practitioners, and community leaders from around the world. If you have experience challenging inequality and want to strengthen your leadership, research, and social impact skills, the Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity Programme offers an opportunity to learn, collaborate, and develop innovative approaches to social change.

Launched in 2016, the AFSEE Programme is based at the International Inequalities Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science. It brings together professionals from different countries and backgrounds to examine the root causes of inequality and develop strategies for meaningful social transformation.

The programme combines academic research, practical experience, leadership development, and collaboration. During the fellowship, participants explore the structures that create inequality and learn from academics, campaigners, civil society professionals, and fellow changemakers.

According to the programme, its first ten cohorts have brought together more than 160 changemakers from over 60 countries. Fellows also become part of a wider international network dedicated to advancing social and economic justice.

Fellowship Benefits

The Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity Programme is a fully funded fellowship. It offers two participation tracks to accommodate different professional and personal circumstances.

Key benefits include:

  • Fully funded fellowship: Financial support for participation in the programme, subject to the applicable track and funding arrangements.
  • Academic development: Opportunities to engage with research, policy discussions, and contemporary approaches to tackling inequality.
  • Leadership development: Strengthen analytical, collaborative, and practical skills to advance social change.
  • International networking: Connect with activists, researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and social-change leaders from around the world.
  • Long-term community: Join the wider Atlantic Fellows network and access opportunities for continued collaboration, professional development, and knowledge exchange.

Available Fellowship Tracks

1. Residential Track

Residential Fellows spend one year in London and undertake the MSc in Inequalities and Social Science at LSE. Participants also complete four dedicated fellowship modules covering the foundations of social and economic inequalities, policy for equity, approaches to transforming inequality, and debates surrounding inequality.

2. Non-Residential Track

Non-Residential Fellows remain in their home countries and professional settings while participating in the programme. They develop a practice-based project and join Residential Fellows for fellowship modules through online and in-person activities. Successful participants receive a Postgraduate Certificate in Social and Economic Equity.

Both tracks provide opportunities for learning, skills development, and engagement with a global community of changemakers.
