Pharmacy Research Assistant position is available at the School of Medicine of Johns Hopkins University. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of medications required for the treatment as well as research medications for various research protocols.
  • Responsible for the preparation, distribution, and accountability of drugs utilized in human experimental research; as well as recording, receiving, and storing all pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Determining bulk compounds needed. Packaging and labeling all products compounded for treatment and research purposed per COMAR.
  • Compounding (including bulk compounding) and calculating the correct amount of any and all drugs needed.
  • Calculating and converting to proper weights and measuring the amount of solution and drugs to be used, taking into account concentration, overfill for slight losses during mixture, and number of doses contained in the solution.
  • Recognizing atypical occurrences when compounding, e.g. changes in color, consistency, etc. and reporting problems to the pharmacist immediately.
  • Operates equipment safely, effectively and in compliance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Coordinates routine maintenance on equipment as indicated by manufacturer’s recommendations and policy.
  • Assists in The Joint Commission or other regulatory surveys.

Salary

$14.00 – $19.25 per hour

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required besides six months related experience.
  • Must be registered with the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of strengths or dose, dosage forms, physical appearance, routes of administration and duration of drug therapy, such as extemporaneous compounding, pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Ability to use computer and appropriate software such as Excel, FileMaker, Word.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulation pertaining to the preparation and delivery of both treatment and research medications.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail regardless of sudden deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Six months pharmacy related work experience required. Additional education may substitute for experience.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Board required.
