Fully Funded Scholarships are available for students to study the prestigious Master’s degree in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa. The Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, South Africa, is calling for applications for the Master’s degree (LLM/MPhil) in Human Rights and Democratisation (HRDA) for the Class of 2020.

The HRDA is a  one-year intensive course where 25-30 exceptional individuals spend six months in Pretoria and six months at one of the 12 partner universities all over Africa. Above all, it is the only course of its kind in Africa. Graduates become members of the HRDA Alumni Association whose 537 members are currently active in the full spectrum of human rights work: from grassroots, through civil service, to international organisations, such as the African Union and the United Nations.

Scholarship Awards

There are up to 25 full-scholarships covering at least tuition, accommodation and official programme activities. The approximate cost of the programme (1 year)  is US$ 15 000.

Eligibility

• Law students (LLM option):  A degree allowing access to the legal profession
• Non-law students (MPhil option):  An Honours degree in a discipline relevant to human  rights and democratisation

Applicants must have excellent academic credentials as well as should demonstrate human rights experience or interest. Partially or fully self-funded students can also apply for this programme. However, the students must meet all the minimum admission criteria and should guarantee payment of all or at least a significant part of tuition, accommodation and official programme activities, to an amount the Centre sets annually.
