The European Organization for Nuclear Research (also known as CERN) is the European research organization. It operates the largest Particles Physics laboratory in the world. This 1954 established organization has 23 member countries. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, scientists of CERN studies basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that collide together at close to the speed of light. In general, CERN’s main function is to provide the particle accelerators and other infrastructure for high-energy physics research. And as a result, numerous experiments have been constructed at CERN through international collaborations.
About position
CERN is accepting an application for the post of Administrative assistant who will join the CERN’s Industry, Procurement, and Knowledge Transfer (IPT) Department. The main objective of the department is to provide essential support and advice on procurement, knowledge transfer and EU projects. Here are some main responsibilities that the incumbent have to perform
- Provide front-office service for all categories of personnel upon arrival, departure and throughout their appointment.
- Process requests for the purchases/reimbursement/benefits/payments.
- Arrange official travel and calculate reimbursements according to the CERN rules in force. Similarly, provide administrative support for the organization and follow-up of conferences and further events.
- Keep up-to-date with and apply a variety of CERN rules and procedures.
- Ensure the smooth circulation of information as required within and outside the Department. Also, provide assistance for document drafting, editing and proof-reading.
- Liaise and communicate with other CERN services as well as maintain documentation and archives (web pages, internal controls, and procedures, databases, catalogs).
- Furthermore, follow up of budget and projects.
Skills and qualifications
- Higher diploma in the field of Administration or relevant field.
- Following, experience in a variety of administrative and support tasks for a large unit. Similarly, experience in a front-line and international environment would be an advantage.
- Caliber in using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Strong communication, interpersonal as well as organizational skills.
- Excellent command in the English language. However, additional knowledge of French will be a plus.
