Position: Junior researcher (Criminologist) in Law’s Influence on Behaviour at Amsterdam Law School – Department of General Jurisprudence

About position

The Amsterdam Law School is seeking a junior researcher to work on the project Homo Juridicus, Correcting Law’s Behavioural Illiteracy’.  Moreover, the project aims to develop a behavioral jurisprudence that makes the law’s behavioral function in shaping future conduct central. In general, the incumbent will collaborates with other senior researcher and three Ph.D. researchers. The main purpose of the collaboration is to systematically analyze available scientific evidence for each of the core mechanisms through which comes to shape behavior (punishment, social norms, capacity/opportunity, unconscious, and organizational).

Roles and responsibilities

• Involving in high-quality scientific research that will form the basis for academic publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
• Contribute to the ERC-project as a whole, including cooperation with the principal investigator and other researchers in the ERC-team. Similarly, actively contribute to the research community in the Law Faculty, in particular at PSC.
• Participate in the organization of research activities and events, such as conferences, workshops, and joint publications.

Required skills and qualifications

• Masters degree in Criminology or closely related discipline. In addition to that,  expertise in quantitative skills and good broad knowledge of criminological theory and empirics.
• Similarly, demonstrable research knowledge of and interest in law and behavior.
• Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
• Interest in comparative research as well as an ability to work in a team.
