Position: Assistant Professor of Biology at Philander Smith College
Key duties
Along with teaching and lecturing, the incumbent will perform the following major duties under the Biological Department of the institution
- Promote student-centered education, preparations, and research and laboratory techniques needed to assist the student in excelling in the field of biology.
- Demonstrate experience in integrating other sciences with biology, especially chemistry. Also, promote undergraduate research in the field, bringing innovative experience as a STEM mentor.
- Illustrate efforts to stay abreast of new developments and advances in your field. Similarly, illustrate scholarly research in the field of biology and/or integrated fields.
- Possess excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- Instruct student with various learning styles as well as incorporating team-based learning.
- Incorporate technology into the teaching and learning of biology. Also, identify knowledge of appropriate pre-test and post-test assessment.
- Participate in departmental, divisional and campus-wide meetings. Similarly, conduct research and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Join as well as participate in professional associations appropriate to undergraduate biology faculty.
Skills and qualifications
- Ph.D. in Biology, Biomedical Science, or related field of Biology. In addition to that, teaching experience in Biology or closely related discipline.
- Knowledge of current national trends/standards in biology and/or related fields.
- Ability to work with other members of the faculty and utilize opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- Possess professional written and oral communication skills.
- Have a commitment to teaching in the field of biological sciences with a cultural competency lens.
- Evidence of research and/or teaching experience in the field of biology.
