Position: Information Security Associate

Human Rights Watch is an international non-profitable organization that conducts research and advocacy on human rights. he group pressures some governments, policymakers and human rights abusers to denounce abuse and respect human rights and the group often works on behalf of refugees, children, migrants, and political prisoners. It has a headquarter in Empire State building at New York City, United States of America.

Roles and responsibilities

Operational tasks

  • Organize and document security support operations and procedures (i.e., pre-departure briefings, security/privacy risk assessments, asset request system). Similarly, ensure these procedures are being followed by staff; and identify possible improvements in efficiency and efficacy.
  • Support the team in monitoring and evaluation, including tracking, collating, and analyzing data on incidents, research missions, and other ongoing security projects.
  • Coordinate needs assessment, updates, and review of HRW security guidance, knowledge materials, playbooks, and management documents (i.e., work plans).
  • Further, serve as a point of contact and key coordinator for logistics between security and HRW offices, global staff, and external partner if necessary.

   Administrative tasks

  • Maintain security asset purchasing, supply requests, tracking, and inventory management, including sat-phones, travel security kits, and other security hardware/software/accounts.
  • Schedule, prepare for, and coordinate end-user security training and awareness raising activities including preparing materials and reserving meeting spaces.
  • Assist with preparing, drafting, editing, formatting and/or distributing materials. For example, security guidance, policies & procedures, alerts, announcements, and narrative and statistical reports on security activities.
  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Information Security.
  • Track, collect and collate external security incidents, guidance and resources, and analysis on attacker capabilities/intent.
  • Furthermore, perform other duties as required.

Minimum qualifications

  • Minimum one years of working experience in a similar capacity. In addition to that, prior office/administration experience and strong organizational and time management skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to synthesize content for public consumption.
  • Strong interest in information security and human rights is required, Similarly, experience working with non-governmental organizations is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks are required.
  • Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions.
  • Ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in multiple locations globally.
  • Proficiency in computer packages including MS Office applications.
  • However, candidates with an academic degree will be preferred but a degree is not mandatory to apply.
