Position: Public Information Officer for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
Roles and responsibilities
Under the supervision of Chief of Program, the incumbent will work on the Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA).
In Particular, the position holder will do the following duties
- Ensure implementation of information programs, campaigns and or major events to publicize the work of UNODC in preventing corruption, wildlife, and forestry crime, as well as human trafficking.
- Contribute to UNODC outreach efforts for the three related International/World Days around wildlife crime (3 March); human trafficking (30 July); and corruption (9 December).
- Coordinate the production of major video programs and products. It might include video news releases to be distributed online and/or aired on television.
- Substantially contribute to, coordinate and/or guide the production of communication products with an emphasis on audio-visual materials, as well as web content, press releases, and so on.
- Liaise with various service providers (artistic and technical) to facilitate production, translations and reproduction of radio and television public service announcements, video news releases, and B-roll and other public information materials. Also, monitoring and reporting on development and responding to inquiries.
- Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned communication project; monitor and analyze project development and implementation; identify opportunities to maximize visibility to the project.
Furthermore,
- Ensure coordination with field offices and the respective program heads of the supported Global Programmes. The motive will be to promote selected activities in the field, including the timely use of social media.
- Develop tools and templates for use of program staff globally, including support to the relevant UNODC websites such as design, layout, advocacy content and increased reach.
- Similarly, develop and support the implementation of strategies for advocacy and communication for the relevant global programs. It might be including social media, at national and international levels.
- Compile good practices from HQ and the field in the areas of advocacy and campaigns with a view to generating a set of sample communication products and events.
- Furthermore, perform other work-related duties as required.
Minimum requirements
- Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, international relations, social sciences or other related fields. However, candidates with a bachelors degree with two additional years of qualifying work experience can also apply.
- In addition to that, at least five years of experience at the international level in journalism, communications, press, media production or related fields. Similarly, experience in developing web- and social media content.
- Strong organizational, leadership and planning capability.
- Impressive communication skills English with excellent command in the English language. Furthermore, an additional knowledge of any other UN official language will be plus.
