Position: Project Management Officer at Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) under the United Nations Environment Programme
Roles and responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of Executive Coordinator, the incumbent will do the following tasks
- Engaging Implementing Partners and sub-contractors through UN Environment legal instruments, reporting to the donor and UN Environment. Similarly, establishing systems for project implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as managing the day-to-day work of the Project Coordination Team and project partners.
- Administering, preparing and monitoring the budget and financial cycles of the project including UMOJA administration.
- Establishing an effective outreach and communications strategy, developing communications material, liaising with the CMS Secretariat on communications activities and identifying opportunities to showcase the project.
- Providing project support to project partners in a multi-cultural setting, liaising with project partners (implementing, national, political and technical). Similarly, undertaking site visits, attending workshops and training.
- Providing advice to project partners on reporting requirements and ensuring working relationships remain positive and productive.
- Directly supervising the Project Associate, allocating tasks and identifying priorities, as well as providing feedback on day-to-day work of the Project Associate and undertaking performance management.
- Furthermore, performing other duties relevant to the assignment.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Masters and equivalent) in conservation biology, environmental management, project management, economics, international relations or related area. However, candidates with a bachelor degree and two years of additional qualifying work experience can also apply.
- In addition to that, at least five years of work experience in the field of conservation biology, environmental management, project finance, and management or related areas.
- Excellent computer skills including knowledge of the use of standard software (such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication and teamwork ability. Similarly, excellent interpersonal skills as well as organizational skills.
- Impressive capacity in the English language. Additional knowledge of any UN official language will be an asset.
