Position: Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime

About position

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime is seeking Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer in Austria. In addition to the reporting to the Programme Management Officer, the incumbent will be accountable for the following functions

  • Help in the successful implementation and operation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC). Also, provide substantive and organizational input for the implementation of the program of work of OCB.
  • Prepare, draft and coordinate the documentation and also provide substantive servicing to intergovernmental bodies in areas of crime prevention and criminal justice.
  • Deal with all the matters related to the OCB Global Programmes and to the overall work of the Division and UNODC.
  • Similarly, Prepare/draft a variety of written outputs, such as background papers, correspondence with governments, working papers, analyses, briefings, presentations, policy proposals and documents, regular and ad hoc reports, summary reports, etc.
  • Assist in the recruitment of personnel for the Branch.
  • Draft parts of or contribute to the preparation of the necessary program or project documents.
  • In addition to that, complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in international law, international relations, political science or related field. However, candidates with a bachelors degree and two years of additional qualifying work experience can also apply.
  • In addition to that, at least five years of experience in the area of crime prevention and criminal justice, international relations or international law.
  • Similarly, Work experience in supporting policy and program development and providing technical assistance in the area of crime prevention and criminal justice.
  • Experience of working with substantively servicing intergovernmental bodies.
  • Excellent communication skills in English. However, additional knowledge of any other UN official language is an asset.
