Stellenbosch University is a South African public university in Stellenbosch, a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Stellenbosh is jointly the oldest university in South Africa. In addition to that, it is also the oldest extant university in Sub-Saharan Africa alongside the University of Cape Town. Stellenbosch University designed and manufactured Africa’s first microsatellite, SUNSAT, launched in 1999. About role

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Stellenbosch University welcomes qualified Mathematician to join the teaching team. In general, the successful appointee will be liable for teaching Mathematics to higher-level students. Along with teaching, the Professor of Mathematics will do the following functions

• Active research and publication in peer-reviewed journals in an area of the Applied Mathematics Division – namely, machine learning and computer vision; numerical analysis and scientific computing; fluid dynamics and modeling; computational mechanics; applied discrete mathematics.
• Recruiting and supervising postgraduate students.
• Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate Applied Mathematics modules in Science and Engineering programs. Similarly, participating in academically relevant departmental and faculty activities, as required.
• Furthermore, complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

In order to be fit for the position, the candidates must have the following qualifications

• A Ph.D. degree in Applied Mathematics or a closely related field, completed or submitted. In addition to that, evidence of research output at a peer-reviewed international conference or in a recognized journal.
• An active research interest in any area that will strengthen the current research groups in the Applied Mathematics Division.
• Ability and commitment to teaching Applied Mathematics at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
• Furthermore, good communication skills in English.
