Position: Professor of Psychology

About Vancouver Island University

Vancouver Island University is a Canadian public university with the main campus in Nanaimo, Vancouver. In addition to the main campus, it has other regional campuses in Duncan, Powell River and Parksville of British Columbia. Starting as Malaspina College in 1969, it has grown into a university that plays an important role in the educational, cultural, and economic life of the region. Vancouver Island University offers master’s and bachelor’s degrees; two-year diplomas, and one-year certificate programs in a range of areas.

Position summary 

The teaching responsibilities of the successful candidates may include courses in clinical psychology, life-span development and/or addictions. Similarly, s/he must contribute to the governance, events, and service activity of the department. Successful candidates will also participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; as well as professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent in psychology from an APA or CPA accredited institution. Moreover, clinicians must be eligible for registration with the BC College of Psychologists.
  • Recent experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching a wide range of psychology courses.
  • Similarly, an established research program that complements the interests and expertise of current faculty.
  • A record of institutional service as well as active ongoing participation in professional development activities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology relevant to the position.
