Position: Computer Information Systems Assistant (Software Developer) at the United Nations Office at Vienna

Responsibilities 

The Information System Assistant will be liable for the following duties

• Participate in the development, programming, testing, debugging and implementation of new application systems releases, modules, and functionalities using UN established standards for IT technologies, programming languages, and tools.
• Similarly, s/he will serve as a team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation, and support of computer application systems; independently liaise with users to define and specify requirements.
• Prepare technical and user documentation for deployed computer application systems, as well as training materials and conduct technical presentations.
• Provide support for deployed computer application systems including version management, data recovery and deployment to users’ offices; perform ongoing reviews with users and developers and respond to users’ requests.
• Keep abreast of developments in the field. Also, perform benchmarking and propose new acquisitions as well as provide guidance to new/junior staff.
• Furthermore, perform any other work-related duties as required.

Requirements 

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

• Secondary education in Computer Science or relevant field. In addition to that, raining in computer technology and software development is necessary. However, relevant additional post-secondary education or training, as well as Certification in Project Management, is desirable.
• At least seven years of relevant technical work experience in systems analysis, development and programming are necessary.
• Solid knowledge of/experience with Java technologies, e.g. Apache Tomcat, Hibernate, Spring, RESTful Web Services, Maven, Gradle. Similarly, solid knowledge of/experience with Web Technologies HTML/CSS/Javascript is required, e.g. SAAS/Less, Bootstrap, JQuery, Angular, NodeJS, JSON and front-end build tools (npm, Grunt, Webpack).
• Knowledge of/experience with SQL Databases.
• Furthermore, experience with CI build environments, code, issue management is necessary.
• Fluency/proficiency in oral and written English. In addition to that, knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country.
