Position: Chief of Section, Senior Public Information Officer – Social Media
Position summary
The United Nations Department of Global Communication is seeking Chief of Section in the Social Media Section of the Digital and Promotion Branch in the News and Media Division, Department of Global Communications (DGC). The position holder will be liable for the following requirements.
The position holder will be performing the following duties in particular
- Conceptualize and implement the multilingual social media strategy for the Department of Global Communication, in line with the global communications strategy for the United Nations.
- Lead and direct the multilingual social media team; plan and allocate work assignments; coach, mentor, and manage staff; also participate in recruitment and selection of new staff and in the development of training programs.
- Play a key role in advising on and supporting the social media platforms of the Secretary-General and his spokesperson to ensure impact, engagement, and growth.
- Assess the overall effectiveness of social media initiatives across the Secretariat and advise on strategy.
- Represent the Department at inter-agency meetings and participate in international, regional or national meetings; and undertake social-media related discussions with representatives of other institutions and key partners, including the Member States.
- Undertake other tasks as may be required.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications
- Advanced university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. However, a bachelor’s degree holder with additional qualifying work experience of two years can also apply for the position.
- In addition to that, a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in public information, digital media, or journalism.
- Experience in managing global multilingual social media operations is necessary. Similarly, the technological expertise of social media platforms and of effectively engaging audiences on social media is mandatory
- Experience leading global social media campaigns in an international organization is desirable.
- For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
