Position: Assistant or Associate Professor of Virology at the Depart of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences

Position summary 

The incumbent will assist the department to establish a competitive research program emphasizing molecular and classical virology, epidemiology, host/pathogen interaction, vaccinology, bioinformatics, or the human-animal-environmental health triad as they relate to production animal disease. In addition to that, s/he will also assure continuity and development of the diagnostic virology service of the Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory.

The position holder will interact with diagnostic clients and scientists in immunology, microbiology, nutrition animal production or other pertinent disciplines. Furthermore, the assistant or associate professor might also need to train and guide the graduate student and Postdoctoral training along with teaching in Virology related topics for Graduate and/or Veterinary student training.

Qualifications

Candidates must have the following qualifications to be eligible for this professor job vacancy at  South Dakota State University

• Must be authorized to work in the United States as sponsorship is not available for this position.
• Ph.D. or DVM plus an advanced degree in Biological and/or Veterinary Sciences or related field with a focus on virology or microbiology related to animal and human health or related field is required by the start date.
• In addition to that, expertise in classical and molecular virology, as well as an aptitude for collaborative research.
• Expertise in diagnostic development, as well as experience working with veterinarians, is essential.
• Furthermore, refereed publications related to this expertise are expected, as are effective written and oral communication skills.
