Responsibilities
The incumbents will do the following duties as a UN Program Management Officer
- The Programme Management Officer should report to Under-Secretary-General (USG) and lead the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of DSS operations. They also provide strategic advice and support to the USG.
- They will provide oral and written advice to the USG regarding operational activities and policy, undertakes a preliminary review of policy and operational documents,
- Also, they should manage the day-to-day operations of the office, serving as a point of referral on problems which require the USG’s attention
- The candidates should organize and prepare written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, responses, analysis, input into oral briefings, reports and publications, written statements and talking points, and provides editorial and substantive guidance on correspondence emanating from the department
- Additionally, they must analyze, review and comment on relevant documents, reports and communications addressed to the USG
- Also, they should maintain close working relationships with Departments, Field Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes, and broader UN family/UN Country Teams.
- In addition to that, the candidates should prepare drafts of statements and speeches for the USG on security-related matters.
- They will also lead and participate in large, complex USG field missions, to attend meetings or conferences, as required.
- Furthermore, the incumbents will coordinate activities related to human resources for the Office of the USG, budget submissions and program reporting related to the OUSG.
- Likewise, they should perform other duties as required.
Eligibility Criteria
As a program management officer, the candidates will have to meet the following requirements
- Professionalism: The candidates must have knowledge and understanding of the United Nations and its internal procedures. Also, they must showcase the ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues/problems. Additionally, they must demonstrate the ability to complete in-depth studies and reach conclusions on possible causes and solutions to security-related political problems in specific areas and/or countries.
- Communication: The incumbents must be able to speak and write clearly and effectively. They should listen to others, correctly interpret messages from others and respond appropriately.
- Planning and organizing: They must develop clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies. Also, the candidates must identify priority activities and assignments
Experience
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or program management, administration, international relations, security, political affairs, law, political sciences or related area
- Of these, a minimum of three years of experience at the international level
- Also, a minimum of one-year experience in the field
- Additionally, experience in policy analysis and development
- Furthermore, a minimum of two years of experience working in a front office environment providing substantive and administrative support to senior-level UN officials, or equivalent in the government sector.
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
- For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
