UNDP Office in Turkey calls application for Data Science Research Internship

Summary 

The position will join the Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD) to provide the intern with the opportunity to work on how to deploy big data and machine learning approaches on development issues, and particularly to analyze and learn from text-based sources of data using natural language processing algorithms and tools. In particular, the intern will contribute to data acquisition, preparation, analysis, and visualizations efforts.

Responsibilities

The Data Science Research intern will be performing the following duties under the supervision and guidance of the technical specialist.

• Participating in developing machine-learning research.
• Applying advanced Natural Language Processing techniques to build, maintain as well as improve on analytics, organize large datasets to get actionable insights from them.
• Helping communicating findings accurately to different stakeholders as well as supporting the implementation of data science projects.
• Also, collaborating with private and public organizations to get access to their databases.
• Outreaching to organizations as well as academic institutions that apply data science to policymaking
• Furthermore, providing other support and assistance as necessary.

Requirements 

• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Be enrolled in a second university degree program (Master’s Degree); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (Bachelor’s Degree); or have graduated with a university degree.
• The study must be in the field of Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or similar field. If selected then the candidate must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
• Fluent in English with excellent reading and writing skills.

Compensation 

Starting from January 2020 interns will receive stipends according to UN rules and regulations. The interns undertaking this Data Science Research Internship at UNDP in Turkey will be eligible for reasonable stipends.
