Position Summary
The Coastal Conservation Technician assists science and conservation staff with program activities at the Virginia Coast Reserve including stewardship for beach-nesting shorebirds and waterbirds, marine habitat restoration, education, and outreach events, and preserve management and maintenance.
Duties
- Stewardship activities for beach-nesting birds (conducting visitor outreach and surveys at boat ramps, posting and patrolling beach-nesting bird habitat, maintaining signage, data entry);
- Likewise, marine habitat restoration (collecting eelgrass reproductive shoots, maintaining an eelgrass seed curing facility, oyster reef, and scallop restoration efforts);
- Also, education and outreach events (assisting with nature camps/workshops and public events); and
- Furthermore, the incumbent will preserve management and maintenance (trail maintenance, general facility upkeep).
- Additionally, the candidate will work under close supervision and receive specific and detailed instructions for the required tasks.
- Will frequently interact with preserve visitors and TNC staff, partners and volunteers.
- Furthermore, he/she may supervise volunteers on a project basis.
Qualifications for Coastal Conservation Technician Vacancy at Nature Conservancy in the US
- High school diploma and 6 months of related experience
- Likewise, the candidate must be willing to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR).
- Furthermore, experience working in outdoor settings in variable and sometimes physically challenging conditions.
- Also, the incumbent must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record and provide own transportation and personal automobile insurance.
Preferred
- Ability to follow instructions from colleagues.
- Additionally, the ability to work in a team environment.
- Also. comfortable working on a boat; comfortable working alone.
- Likewise, local knowledge of the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
- Similarly, students should be interested in pursuing a career in conservation.
