#GEAConf2018 will be hosted by the Centre of Excellence for Equity in Higher Education (CEEHE) and co-organised by a team of feminist scholars in the Faculty of Education and Arts at the University of Newcastle. It is a joy to be working together with such a fabulous group of feminist scholars to plan this exciting event and it is on behalf of our organising committee that I write this warm welcome to you. Members of the organising committee include Professor Lisa Adkins, Professor Rosalind Gill, Professor Rosalind Smith, Dr Julia Coffey, Dr Akane Kanai and Dr Trisha Pender. Our aim in organizing the GEA 2018 conference is to provide a rich and participatory forum to enable us to collaboratively explore the challenges and strategies for feminist educators, researchers, activists and participants in these complex and sometimes perplexing times.
The 2018 conference addresses a crucial theme of our times: ‘Gender, post-truth, populism and pedagogies: challenges and strategies in a shifting political landscape’. We invite you to take part in discussion, exploration and debate about the ways that knowledge, authority, truth, power and harm are resurfacing and require deep, collective and sustained feminist intervention. The conference will bring us together to explore key questions such as: what does it mean to be pedagogical in a post-truth landscape? How might feminist scholars work to intervene in this environment?
