Applications are open for Peter Porter Poetry Prize 2022.  Australian Book Review welcomes entries for the eighteenth Peter Porter Poetry Prize, which is open to all international poets from 15 July 2021 until midnight, 4 October 2021. This year the Porter Prize is worth a total of AU$10,000 – with the first prize of $6,000.

Entries must be an original single-authored poem of not more than 70 lines written in English. Poems must not have been previously published. The five shortlisted poems will be published in January–February 2022 issue and the winner will be announced at a ceremony later that month. The Peter Porter Poetry Prize is one of Australia’s most lucrative and respected poetry awards. It honors the life and work of the great Australian poet Peter Porter (1929–2010), an honored contributor to ABR for many years. All poets writing in English are eligible to enter.

Prizes

  • The winner of the Peter Porter Poetry Prize will receive AU$6,000.
  • The other four shortlisted poets will each receive AU$1,000

Who can enter?

  • Entries are welcome from poets anywhere in the world.
  • There is no age limit.
  • ABR staff and board members are not eligible.
  • ABR contributors and volunteers may enter.

Format

  • Entries must be a single poem of no more than 70 lines, written in English.
  • Font: Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing, 12 pt, black.
  • The pages should be numbered.
  • Stanza breaks must be clearly indicated.
  • The author’s name must not appear anywhere in the document or in the name of the digital file.
  • The file name should only include the title of the poem.

How to enter?

  • Entries must be submitted online via the ABR website entry page.
  • Multiple entries are permitted.
  • Entries should preferably be a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx).
  • PDFs are accepted if necessary for the poem’s format.
  • Entrants will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt.
