Komal Parakh, a passionate entrepreneur and founder of UpCycle Enterprises, a startup venture, based out of Mumbai, aiming to provide alternatives to waste management of textile, metal and other solid waste through the creation of sustainable line of products, is currently in the early stages of the fundraising cycle for her startup in Cambridge Massachusetts.
A staunch believer in the power of writing and spoken words, she has served as a correspondent for the Times of India and LinkedInn Press, having published articles spanning a wide array of topics on pressing contemporary issues from the relevance of Barter in the contemporary to ideals of a flotsam and jetsam economy.
A zealous speaker, she recently chaired the Indian International MUN Conference in United Nations headquarters, New York as the vice chair on ECOSOC, discussing post Brexit ramifications while pushing for agenda for India’s permanent seat in the Security Council and was awarded 1st prize along with her team, in the presentation of Sustainable Business model at National University of Singapore’ in 2015.
Also a student of Media, Gender and Culture, the ideals of gender equality and rights of minorities form the core of her startup venture that focusses on changing many a social perceptions through generation of fair wage employment and vocational skill training to, at risk and disenfranchised communities such as Racial and Ethnic minorities, Sex workers and homeless people etc in Mumbai, Boston and other major cities in india.
Currently she is also on the board of a very niche student body called Harvard College Impact Investing Group, which aims to educate students about the benefits of investments made in organizations, generating measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact alongside a financial return.
