The University of New Hampshire is a public land-grant research university with its main campus in Durham, New Hampshire. It was founded and incorporated in 1866 as a land grant college in Hanover in connection with Dartmouth College, moved to Durham in 1893, and adopted its current name in 1923.

Summary of Position

Provide infrastructure and system administration services to the central Enterprise Technology & Services organization supporting the teaching, learning, research, and outreach needs of the schools of the University System of New Hampshire.  Additionally, this role will be part of a team to manage our VMware environment, including associated storage systems, and will also contribute to the deployment and management of Linux-based servers.  Likewise, coordinate and collaborate with the applications management team on their needs for the underlying server systems.  Stay current with advancements in virtualization and infrastructure technologies including latest releases, be aware of/track issues, and monitor/participate in user communities.  Furthermore, contribute to planning and implementation of strategies to transition infrastructure services to various cloud-based platforms.  Also, follow technology management, cybersecurity, and IT service best practices.  Moreover, participate in other IT-related project work as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience in information technology field, Associate’s and eight years, or combination of education and experience equal to ten years.

  • Experience managing VMware-based infrastructure
  • Also, experience with central server and configuration deployment and management technologies
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Unix shell script (Bash), Python, and/or PowerShell
  • Likewise, good working knowledge of modern switched, TCP/IP networks

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SaltStack configuration management
  • Furthermore, experience managing central storage infrastructure
  • Knowledge of information security best practices
  • Additionally, familiarity with Lean process improvement practices
  • Also, experience working in a higher education environment
