Perrine Marie Stéphania lives in Rodrigues, one of Mauritius outer island. Her island is economically less developed than Mauritius and unemployment is high. She is a single mother who comes from a very modest family. She presently lives with her mother and two brothers. Among her siblings, she was the only child completing high school.
After high school, she was employed as a replacement teacher. From then, she was jostled from one school to another because she was not properly qualified. Her desire to become more professional and to secure her job guided her to upgrade herself through a BA in English and Sociology which she did through distance learning. Through it all, she worked to sustain her family. Hard work always pays off. She is the English Head of Department in a secondary school.
She enjoys community work and forms part of many youth groups. She is a local singer and youth leader. She met many inspirational youth leaders engaged in promoting sustainable development and fighting climate change. They inspired her passion for Sustainable Development. She has participated in and has organised workshops to raise awareness of climate change. She is the president of a youth-led NGO which promotes Sustainable Development and is a YALI Alumni. After competing for the prestigious Chevening Scholarship offered by the UK government, she became an awardee and is currently doing an MSc in Sustainable Development (Climate Change and Risk Management) at the University of Exeter.
