Safiya MOUNAJI, a Moroccan second year student in an engineering school: Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Ingénieurs en Informatique Automatique Mécanique Énergétique Électronique in Valenciennes FRANCE, she is majoring in industrial engineering and IT. She has just moved to France to pursue her studies. She is very passionate about what she is doing. However, other than education, she found other interests. When she was a kid, she was keen on poetry, she enjoys reading old Arabic poems and to look into their style, in fact she used to write some as well, she also loves sports, especially basketball.
In her senior year, her energy was overflowing that she joined People to people international, a non-governmental organization that helps children coming from families with little income, especially in their education. And despite her young age, she was assigned to be responsible for internal and external communication. She really fitted in that position, because she is that kind of person that always find a common thing with people around her and start a conversation about it.
She is a very social person and likes to discover new people, because according to her, every person is unique in its own way, and everyone has a story to tell. College is the period where she blossomed, she joined several clubs, and thus she was involved in numerous humanitarian and cultural activities. Therefore, her goals became clearer; she wants to be an efficient professional, comfortable in her own skin but more importantly, she wants to give the world around her what she can offer and to share with them what she calls it “The beautiful journey of life”. Becoming from a country like Morocco, where multiculturalism invades the country, she became open to discover other cultures, in fact her trips to Europe made her discover other perspectives, she made a lot of friends there, and that was due to her curiosity.
She spent her last summer in an exchange program(MEPI Student Leaders Program) organized by US embassy in Rabat to learn about leadership, as she has been very committed in community service last year in morocco, she wanted to enhance her skills. Consequently she became interested to help others finding opportunities and get advantage from them. She wishes she would be an added value to OYA Opportunities Family.
The developing country, the youth in very promising, throughout my modest experience extracurricular activities and community service, I noticed how my peers have amazing will to promote change.
Unfortunately, in developing countries it is easy to find obstacles,so, it is mandatory to insure the continuity of those promising potentials. In fact, in my opinion, education is the key, the more young students get educated, the more they feel grateful about what this world offered to them, so instead of being narrow minded, they become more open to make their own impact to the community.
Always through school and this time even the use of social media, we can encourage youth to participate in activities, because once they start they can never stop, it is all about doing the first step, and finally we should educate people and teach them the “how” of change through workshops and training, because if there is anything more important than making things happen, is making things happen WELL !
