Gettysburg College is a private, four-year liberal arts college in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, United States. Gettysburg College was founded in 1832, as a sister institution for the Lutheran Theological Seminary. The college’s original name was Pennsylvania College but later after a few decades, it became Gettysburg College.

Gettysburg is one of the top universities in the United States, in fact, it ranks in the 41st position in the National Liberal Arts Colleges in 2018 edition of Best Colleges. It is known for its highly intellectual faculty and rigorous academics.

Eisenhower Scholarship

The Eisenhower Scholarship is Gettysburg College’s most selective scholarship—$160,000 for four years of full-time study ($40,000 per year). It is awarded to top-performing applicants within a most challenging curriculum who have demonstrated a high level of civic engagement locally, nationally, and/or internationally.

Application Requirements and Process

  • Complete and submit the Eisenhower Scholarship application by January 15, 2020.
  • Complete and submit the Common Application, official high school transcript, and counselor/teacher recommendations by January 15, 2020.
  • Scholarship recipients will be notified in early March (including those who enrolled at Gettysburg College under Early Decision admission).
  • Students who are not recipients of the Eisenhower Scholarship will be automatically considered for the College’s four academic merit scholarships as part of the admissions review process.

What does it mean to be an Eisenhower Scholar?

  • Recipients of the Eisenhower Scholarship will be awarded $40,000 per year (totaling $160,000 for four years of full-time study at Gettysburg College).
  • Eisenhower Scholars must maintain a 3.0 GPA while at Gettysburg in order to keep the scholarship.
  • Eisenhower Scholars will be assigned an upper-class mentor with an interest in civic engagement and also have the option to attend a pre-orientation program.
  • Similarly, Eisenhower Scholars will be given early course registration opportunities.
  • Eisenhower Scholars will take a fall semester First-Year Seminar on a topic related to civic engagement.
  • Eisenhower Scholars will participate in the spring semester Civic Engagement Series.
