Academic Counselor position available at Academic Counseling department of the University of St. Thomas.
About the Position
This position assists undergraduate students with course registration, major and minor field selection, understanding graduation requirements and degree planning, academic support for at-risk students, and referrals to campus resources. The Academic Counselor position also supports faculty advisors, manages attendance alerts sent by faculty members, and engages in various outreach efforts to students. This position will also provide leadership and support for data and technology related to academic advising.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide academic advising for undergraduate students via in-person, e-mail, and phone appointments and drop-in advising services.
- Assist students in course selection, course sequencing, four-year graduation plans
- Provide support for a caseload of at-risk students
- Collaborate on the development and implementation of a curricular approach to the work of academic advising
- Work collaboratively with Salesforce developers to update and further develop departmental initiatives which utilize tools in Salesforce
- Collaboration with administrative assistant for website content and development
- Represent the department’s technology needs and interests to other departments
- Collaborate with Center for Student Achievement partners about technology needs and initiatives
- Provide training and support to academic counseling colleagues regarding new and updated advising technology
- Assist faculty advisors in degree evaluation interpretation, editing degree evaluation based on exceptions and waivers, etc.
- Proactively engage in retention efforts with individual students and those coordinated by the Center for Student Achievement

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Two years of advising and counseling experience in higher education or an equivalent setting
- Experience working with students from various backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counseling, education, or college student personnel
- Knowledge of computer applications related to the work (Banner, Optix, online course registration systems, etc.)
