Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of Bio-Chemistry
About role
New Mexico Highlands University, a public university in the state of New Mexico is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Bio-Chemistry. The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing lecture and laboratory instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate level along with leading a research program involving undergraduate and Master-level students as well as serving as a student mentor and advisor in keeping with the university’s mission. The incumbent will be doing the following things at the university
- Prepare and teach, as assigned, selected courses within the chemistry program to undergraduate and graduate students (normal teaching load of 24 credit hours per academic year). In addition to that, hold office hours.
- Conduct scholarly activities including research in the stated field of knowledge and publish findings in professional journals.
- Establish an independent, innovative, research program while seeking external funding.
- Advise and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students on matters within the chemistry discipline and related areas.
- Serve on committees and participate in meetings as part of university service. Similarly, supervise and manage students or technicians in laboratory preparation assignments and instrumentation maintenance.
- Maintain regular attendance on campus
- Furthermore, perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
In order to be fit for the role, the incumbent must have the following qualifications
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry with an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in chemistry or biochemistry. However, candidates with ABD qualification can also apply.
- Acquaintance with preparing, running, and instructing in the chemistry/biochemistry lecture and laboratory.
- Candidate must be knowledgeable in chemistry and biochemistry and especially note how these two areas of chemistry intersect and overlap. Similarly, must possess skill and expertise in the classroom and laboratory.
- However, candidates with Post-Doctoral experience in performing biochemical research preferred.
