Position summary
The historically black public land-grant university in the capital of Missouri state is seeking competent Director of Accounting. In general, the Director of Accounting will perform administrative and professional accounting operations. In addition to those, he/she will be performing the following duties
- Assist in maintaining the university’s accounting functions and responsibilities, exercise independent judgment and discretion in planning and carrying out the duties of work procedures.
- Supervision of various accounting functions including grant post-award.
Perform post-award grants management for all externally funded grant or contract projects. - Similarly, perform a variety of accounting work in the development and maintenance of the university’s financial and accounting system.
- Ensure financial integrity through monitoring and analysis of a full range of accounting activities.
- Monitor and interpret internal control as well as interpret and use professional judgment to apply applicable regulations in compliance with GAAP as well as federal, state and local regulations.
- Serve in a supervisory capacity for various accounting personnel including Accounts Payable, Grant Accountant and General Accountants. Also, implement cross-training opportunities of all accounting staff to ensure continuity and consistency of staff members.
- Compile financial reports for external users including but not limited to FISAP, NSF Research Survey, Indirect Cost Negotiations and financial status reports for grants and contracts.
- Furthermore, may occasionally assist with other areas of Office of the Controller as needed.
Required qualification and competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration field required. In addition to that, a minimum of five years of experience in an advanced accounting position with Higher Education experience preferred.
- Similarly, experience or knowledge of Colleague preferred.
- The high aptitude of accounting guidelines and regulations as it relates to Higher Education is required.
- Familiarity with GASB.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills as well as proficient with spreadsheets and software required.
