Assistant Director, Environmental Health and Safety position is available at California State University, Northridge.
Under the direction of the Director of Environmental Health and Safety, the Assistant Director, Environmental Health and Safety oversees and directs the University’s Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) staff, operations, programs, and assigned programs. The incumbent, in coordination with the Director, helps support and develop the EH&S team which is composed of professional staff, administrative staff, and student assistants; is responsible for the EH&S operations in the absence of the Director.
Key Responsibilities
- maintain a safe and healthy environment for faculty, staff, students, and the general public;
- ensure that University operations are in compliance with campus health and safety policies and standards, California Occupational Safety & Health Act (CAL-OSHA) and other applicable environmental health rules, regulations, and laws;
- liaise with the CSU Chancellor’s Office, other CSU campuses, state and federal regulatory personnel to assure compliance with current legislation and regulations, as well as assuring compliance with nationally recognized standards of good practice;
- work with campus constituents to implement reasonable measures and best practices for the safe active management of campus activities and appropriately limit exposure to hazards;
- actively coordinate with various campus departments to assist in program development, training and monitoring compliance;
- interpret and analyze pertinent provisions of federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations;
- evaluate and analyze campus activities in implementing programs;
- conduct routine assessments and inspections of campus facilities to identify unsafe, non-compliant, or unhealthful conditions
- develop innovative and cost effective solutions for the implementation of environmental health and safety programs
Salary and Benefits
The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $86,000- $93,000 per year, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field.
- Equivalent to five years of progressively responsible professional/administrative experience; with two of the five years in a managerial role preferred.
- Previous experience in an institution of higher education is preferred.
- Certification as an Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Safety Professional (CSP) is desired.
