Position: Assistant Professor of Computer Science

About role

La Rocha University is a private university in McCandless Township, Pennsylvania. The university is seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor of Computer Science.

In particular, the incumbent will do the following tasks under the Department of Computer Science

• Prepare and deliver lectures and innovative classroom pedagogies to undergraduate level students.
• Evaluate and grade students’ course work, papers, and other assignments; develop, administer and grade examinations.
• Also, prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and course handouts.
• Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions, both in-class and electronically.
• Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise computer science majors in academic, curricular, and professional issues such course selection, resume & internship preparation, recommendation letters for graduate school.
• Similarly, utilize educational technologies such as Canvas, Smart Classroom, WEAVE and other programs associated with teaching and assessing students.
• Keep abreast of developments within the field of computer science.
• Pursue professional development, particularly in the fields of teaching, curriculum, and in the field of specialization.
• Likewise, attend required departmental and divisional meetings, and university-wide activities, including Opening Assembly and Commencement.
• Furthermore, complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

An ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

• MS in computer science combined with substantial professional experience or a Ph.D. in computer science
• In addition to that, prior teaching experience at the college/university level; experience with teaching in online environments.
• Relevant industry and/or business experience will be an asset.
