Position: Clinical and Sport Psychologist

About the University of Arizona

The University of Arizona is a public research university in Tucson, Arizona. It is the first university in the state of Arizona. Key Duties

In particular, the Clinical and Sport Psychologist will perform the following functions at the University of Arizona

  • Provide individual clinical assessment, psychological treatment, and case management for student-athletes. Similarly, assess and respond to crisis intervention with individuals and groups within the athletic department
  • Coordinate referrals to outside resources for mental health and AOD services for student-athletes. Also, participate in a multi-disciplinary team within the athletic department in the management of student-athletes with significant mental health issues, disordered eating, etc.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of student-athlete programming for leadership, development, personal growth and health, and wellness
  • Establish relationships with university and community mental health providers and enhance awareness of mental health issues impacting student-athletes.
  • Provide individual performance optimization consultation sessions as well as deliver team sport psychology sessions. Similarly, be available for coach and administrative consultation.
  • Medical documentation and record keeping
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures as defined by the NCAA, PAC12 Conference, University of Arizona and the University Of Arizona Department Of Athletics. Similarly, adhere to the APA Code of Ethics and statues of the State of Arizona
  • Participate in special projects, committees, or other initiatives as assigned. Following, represent the University of Arizona and the UA Department of Athletics at University, State, Regional, National, and International conferences and/or meetings, as assigned.
  • Furthermore, other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D in Counseling or Clinical Psychology. In addition to that, an ability to provide treatment and/or consultation that spans the spectrum of care for student-athletes ranging from debilitating emotional distress to optimization of performance
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively, respectfully and appropriately with diverse populations in the Department, University and the community. Similarly, capable of handling multiple tasks in a high-stress environment
  • Excellent written and electronic communication.
  • Able to accurately interpret and adhere to NCAA and PAC12 Conference rules, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, the University of Arizona and the Department of Athletics policies, and Arizona psychologist licensure statutes.
