Academic Job Description

The main activities of the position are divided into teaching and research, each for approximately half of the time.

The incumbent will also participate in administrative responsibilities related to the usual functioning of the School of Public Health. He/she will contribute to the visibility and strengthening of the School’s position in national and international expertise in the analysis of health policies and systems and in health promotion.

Moreover, he or she is required to carry out high-level research.

Educational and scientific goals:

The courses you are requird to teach are part of the Health Policy, Systems and Promotion programme of the Master in Public Health.

The “Health Policy, Systems and Promotion programme of the Master in Public Health” programme aims to train actors oriented towards public health interventions. The objective is to train multi-skilled professionals capable of developing public health and health promotion policies, programmes or projects, in an interdisciplinary and intersectoral approach, and in different contexts (from local to international, and in a wide range of socio-economic conditions).

The candidate will teach courses covering the following areas:

– Health policies and systems

– Design, planning and programming of health interventions

– Evaluation of health programmes, interventions and policies

The courses are mainly given in French, some of them may be given in English.

In these activities, he/she will mobilise his pedagogical skills to help students acquire theoretical and applied skills in public health in professional situations that require the mastery of a rigorous scientific approach, particularly in the development of research and evaluation protocols. He/she will develop their critical analysis, with the support of existing studies and scientific publications.

He/she will also participate in the supervision and evaluation of master’s theses.

Moreover, the applicant will be responsible for the activity of the assistants or student assistants attached to his/her courses.

In the first year, the maximum teaching load will be 90 hours and will gradually increase to 120 hours after three years.

In addition to teaching and research activities, the post holder should participate in services to the community, including participation in the internal functioning of the ESP (juries, commissions, working groups).

Qualifications required for the academic job:

PhD Degree (with doctoral thesis) in

– in public health sciences or medicine, or

– in political science, social science, public management, economics or management science

Skills required for the academic job

• at least 4 years of research experience at the time of recruitment.
• Post-doctoral experience and an excellent scientific record are a plus.
• Applicants who do not speak French (level C1) may be granted a period of adaptation, but they must be able to teach in French at the end of the third year following their appointment.
• proven experience in the field of public health
• ability to demonstrate skills useful in submitting and obtaining research projects in national and international collaboration and in supervising researchers.
• experience in teaching
