Position: Lecturer of MIS Program (Masters of Interdisciplinary Studies)

Position summary

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), at Southern Utah University (SUU), invites applicants to join the department as a lecturer to teach courses in its Masters of Interdisciplinary Studies (MIS) degree program. This is a full-time, 9-month position to commence in August 2020 where the lecturer will have the option to teach in the summer. Basically, the lecturer will teach a 5/5 course load during the fall and spring semesters. However, the position may also assist in coordinating elements within the MIS Capstone block as needed.

In addition to those, the Lecturer will perform the following duties

• Teach the equivalent of 5 courses per semester. Course assignments may include Research Methods, Foundations of Interdisciplinary Studies, MIS Capstone Thesis, courses within one’s specialty area and other courses assigned by the Director of the MIS program.
• Display strong interpersonal skills and collegiality.
• Furthermore, participate in service and scholarship to the institution and profession as deemed appropriate by the HSS discipline’s performance and tenure (P&T) committee.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

• Masters’ degree in one of the following disciplines areas; Communications, English, Criminal Justice, French, Political Science, History, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Philosophy, Spanish.
• Excellence in traditional and online teaching to diverse populations, and have a commitment to service and working collegially.
• Successful candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to working with an interdisciplinary context, familiarity with interdisciplinary degrees, and the capacity to teach using the Canvas learning management system (LMS).
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness as well as evidence of two years’ post-secondary teaching excellence.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English as evidenced by a cover letter and auxiliary materials.
• Similarly, evidence of meeting the needs of diverse student populations and collaboration with diverse communities and organizations.
• Furthermore, ability of collaborative and collegial work as evidenced by a cover letter and auxiliary materials.
