Position: Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology
California State University, East Bay ( Cal State East Bay, CSU East Bay )is a public university in Hayward, California. The university is part of the 23-campus California State University system. About role
The Psychological Department of university invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology. In particular, the incumbent will perform the following tasks
- Teaching a list of potential courses including Evidence-Based Practices for Mild-Moderate Disabilities, Assessment: Mild-Moderate Disabilities, Research and Professional Practices, Advanced Curriculum and Instruction: Mild Moderate Disabilities and other courses of interest.
- Evidence of publication or strong potential for success in research as related to special education, evidence-based practices, and teacher preparation.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with the districts with which we place our students and in which our candidates teach. Also, monitoring Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between our University and the district/agency.
- Ongoing monitoring of field progress of candidates through a) making site visitations to intern and fieldwork placements to observe our students and to foster our program’s relationships with the cooperating teachers, mentors and site administrators 2) sending quarterly evaluations to field supervisors, and 3) quarterly phone and email check-ins with cooperating teachers, mentors and site administrators (and more as needed).
- Updating program materials such as candidate, supervisor, mentor, cooperating and intern handbooks.
- Recruiting and admitting Education Specialist candidates which include- outreach to school districts and school organizations, orientations, reviewing applications, conducting interviews of potential candidates, and writing acceptance letters.
Additional duties
- Keeping updated on the latest Commission on Teacher Credentialing Program Standards, requests for program data, accreditation materials and documents as well as grant opportunities
- Similarly, participating actively in professional organizations, such as the California Council of Teacher Education, California Professors of Special Education, Council for Exceptional Children, California Association of Resource Specialists and other special education-related organizations.
- Serving on school district, department, university, community, state, and national committees. Also, working collaboratively with faculty members and staff to create a harmonious work environment.
- Participating in day to day Special Education program-related activities as well as supporting program students as it relates to coursework and program expectations.
- Furthermore, perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ph.D. from a nationally recognized and accredited institution in Special Education or the equivalent. In addition to that, experience as a K-12 special education teacher, program specialist, mentor teacher or administrator
- Commitment to the active pursuit of a research agenda leading to refereed scholarship, professional presentations, and external funding.
- Similarly, strong interest in and a professional commitment to the preparation of Education Specialists and collaboration with districts and SELPAs.
- Experience with instruction and service delivery in K12 environments.
- Similarly, experience with instructional technology as well as with collaborative leadership.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and collegiality.
