Position: Assistant/Associate Professor at the School of Dentistry

Position summary

The School of Dentistry at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking Assistant/Associate Professor of General Practice. The position will involve in academic duties like teaching, research, and service.

Teaching

S/he will play a leadership role in the integration of operative and prosthodontic preclinical education. This position will be mentored by the Director of Digital Dentistry to integrate digital technology, for instance, CAD/CAM, 3D printing, digital removable denture, computer-aided implant treatment planning, as well as dental materials science and evidence-based dentistry into the new DDS preclinical curriculum. In addition to that, the incumbent will fully participate in the digital dentistry clinic as part of the continuation of DDS preclinical training.

Research

The faculty member will also be part of the VCU Center of Digital Dentistry. The main research activities will be in a distinct project that combines biomaterial science, operative dentistry and digital dentistry as well as has full access to the center for research in both biomaterials and digital dentistry sciences. Additionally, the incumbent will also participate in national/international meetings such as the AADR/IADR or other dental specialties/research organizations through annual presentations, annual peer-review journal publications, or serving as journal reviewers/editors or organization’s officers.

Service

The role will have to participate in committee service within the School of Dentistry and within VCU. Furthermore, participation in faculty practice is optional but encouraged.

Requirements

The ideal appointee will have the following qualifications

  • D.D.S. / D.M.D degree or foreign equivalent and a certificate in operative dentistry.
  • Strong leadership skills as well as good communication skills, both oral and written. Similarly, teamwork and team-building ability.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellence in a humanistic environment of new technology in adult learning and education.
  • Similarly, candidates must demonstrate excellence in the incorporation of active learning, multimedia learning, as well as blended “flipping the classroom” learning into evidence-based oral health care and critical thinking.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
