The Leiden University of Netherlands announces the vacancy opening in the tenure track Assistant Professor of Law and Society.  The successful candidate will join the Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law, Governance, and Society (VVI) and carries out duties of assistant professor. The department will start with a unique, one-year, English-taught Master program that will have a focus on the social-scientific study of law and society. The incumbent might need to involve in that particular program.

Responsibilities

The successful appointee will contribute to the department by doing the following tasks

• Teaching and developing socio-legal courses in VVI’s academic domain, for the bachelor’s and master’s programs of Leiden Law School and Leiden University College.
• Similarly, developing research and conducting research in VVI’s academic domain;
• Furthermore, cooperating in the acquisition and management of research and teaching projects.

Requirements

Candidates must have the following qualifications to apply for this Law Professor Vacancy at Leiden University, Netherlands

• Masters degree in Law, and/or Social Sciences, and/or Humanities. Also, a Ph.D. degree directly relevant to VVI’s academic domain and approach.
• Teaching experience; proven record as a good, inspiring teacher.
• Experience with developing new teaching modules. Similarly, experience with socio-legal research on the national and local level in the Global North and/or the Global South.
• Good publication record commensurate with career stage.
• Strong language skills, including an excellent command of English. In addition to that, knowledge of Dutch is will be an advantage.
• Team player with strong proven organizational skills, and relevant networks as well as willingness to travel.
