Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate on Remote Sensing under the Divison of Marine Science

About position

The university is seeking a caliber postgraduate research associate to work for remote sensing techniques under a reseach project. The research aims to understand the natural variability of angular scattering by oceanic particles and its impact on retrieving biogeochemical stocks from ocean color observations.

In particular, the incumbent will do the following tasks to contribute to the research project

 

  • Conducts and analyzes laboratory and field measurements to determine the volume scattering functions as well as other optical and biogeochemical parameters.
  • Investigates the impact of particle characteristics on the volume scattering function and the polarization. Similarly, investigates if and how additional information gained from angular and polarized scattering measurements can better constrain the estimation of biogeochemical stocks from ocean color observations
  • Develops inversion algorithms that utilize polarization information in particle scattering. Also, reports the results in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Furthermore, performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent qualification in marine science, remote sensing, or a closely related discipline.
  • In addition to that, experience in conducting science with peer-reviewed publications.
  • Quantitive analytical skills, as well as scientific programming proficiency, are mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills in the English language (both written and verbal).
  • However, Experience in analyzing and interpreting optical measurements collected in the laboratory will be preferred.
