The applications for the post of Academic Advisor at Syracuse University in the Department of Public Communications have opened.
- The Academic Advisor is a member of the undergraduate academic advising team in the Advising Office at the Newhouse School.
- The position provides general academic advising for approximately 340 undergraduate students, as well as pre-registration advising and progress-toward degree advising.
- Also, the advisor works with a wide variety of populations including at-risk students (probation, readmission, and suspension), incoming first-year students and external transfers, intra-university transfers, military students, faculty and administration, and various offices across campus.
Qualifications
The candidates must ensure they have the following qualifications for the post of Academic Advisor at Syracuse University
- They must have a Bachelor’s degree. However, the University prefers a Masters’s degree as an academic qualification.
- Additionally, they should have a minimum of three years of academic advising experience, preferably in a four-year college setting.
- Also, they must maintain knowledge of all academic advising functions of the school and of allied offices to effectively advise students, faculty, faculty advisors and other defined stakeholders.
- Likewise, the incumbents must be a proven team player with excellent interpersonal, planning and time management, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Similarly, they should have the ability to communicate and work with diverse populations is necessary
- Also, they should independently interpret and make recommendations for improvement in advising policy and procedure.
- Furthermore, the candidates must have attention to detail and the ability to work accurately required.
Responsibilities
The incumbents will do the following duties
- They must do project management for projects assigned by the Director of Advising for a variety of programs and processes to achieve Newhouse student advising goals.
- Also, they should develop, update, and deliver a variety of workshops for undergraduate students on topics such as major and/or minor selection, program requirements, first-year registration, and course selection,
- Additionally, they must collaborate and maintain relationships with faculty and staff in schools and colleges across the University to help identify and guide students towards successful college and post-college paths.
- Furthermore, the candidates should evaluate and approve all external AP/IB, transfer credit for the first year, intra university transfer students and external transfer students.
- As an academic advisor, they are responsible for advising and approving all first-term students’ course choices.
- In addition, they should map out major progression to ensure timely graduation for all transfer students.
